Abstract:
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a medical condition affecting attention and cognitive abilities, especially among children. However, traditional treatment options such as behavioral therapy and drugs can be unengaging and might fail to sustain user interest. Thus, there exists a demand for alternative intervention methods capable of stimulating cognitive development among patients with ADHD.
This research proposes a mobile-based virtual reality game for enhancing attention and cognitive ability of patients with ADHD. The game is implemented using Unity 3D engine, with multiple interaction approaches such as voice command, gaze control, and touch controls. The proposed system includes three increasingly difficult levels, namely letter identification, word puzzle, and object chasing.
The proposed system was evaluated through quantitative and qualitative methods. In quantitative analysis, users' task completion time and performance scores were analyzed. Additionally, qualitative feedback was collected through user interviews and questionnaires, and expert evaluation. Results show that users displayed higher engagement and attention levels throughout the gaming process.
Overall, the study shows that virtual reality games are effective tools for improving cognitive ability of patients with ADHD. Furthermore, the proposed solution is affordable and accessible and hence appropriate in scenarios lacking conventional therapy facilities.
