Mapping HCI Principles to Evaluate the Learning Applications of the CCI Users

Abstract

The technological innovation in modem times rests upon user interface design to improve the technical intricacy of products to meet the end user requirements. The acceptance level of any technological product depends on the user experience that displays the understanding of users about the end product. The principal purpose of this study is to recognize the challenges and problems linked to the mobile phone software interface design in the perspective of the Child Computer Interaction (CCI) community. CCI community includes children from age 4-15 years. Regardless of the widespread use of learning applications, less consideration is given to the usability of learning applications from the perspective of the CCI community. During the investigation, the researcher is trying to discover the usability problems faced by the CCI user by utilizing user testing and heuristic approach to assess existing learning applications. The questionnaire technique is carefully chosen to collect the demands from the CCI users about the mobile phone software interface. The findings of the questionnaire are used to develop the design guidelines for the prototype of the mobile phone software interface. Moreover, usability testing is performed to validate the design of the prototype. The result of this study will support mobile phone software interface designers and developers. This thesis presents how a mobile phone software interface for the CCI users can be designed. The study will help designers to become aware of the needs and requirements of building the designs of E-learning applications for the CCI Community.
