dc.description.abstract Objectives: To compare the levels of vitamin D of patients having primary open-angle glaucoma with controls Methodology: This was an observational, cross-sectional study, carried out at the Department of Biochemistry & Department of Ophthalmology, Watim Medical College, Rawat, Rawalpindi. Medical records of 150 patients from the last 5 years were reviewed to categorize them into two groups, Group I diagnosed with POAG based on established criteria (specific optic nerve changes, open angle on gonioscopy and specific visual field defects) & Group II (Controls). Data collection from medical records included: age, gender & Serum vitamin D level in ng/ml. Data analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. Descriptive statistics were used to review the demographic data (age & gender) and the vitamin D levels both for the POAG group and control. Independent t-test was used to compare serum vitamin D levels of the two groups while considering the p-value less than 0.05 as statistically significant. Results: The mean vitamin D levels in Group I (POAG) was 39.75 ± 9.64 ng/ml vs vitamin D level in Group II (Controls) 38.22 ± 7.59 ng/ml with no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: We found no role of serum vitamin D levels in primary open-angle glaucoma. en_US
