In this comparative study we have thoroughly investigated the cross-media practices in Pakistani press such as media pluralism, media diversity and media homogeneity, whether the audiences are given a variety of diverse opinions on these platforms. Specifically, this study has analyzed through content analysis of two media groups Nawa-i-Waqt and Jang which own both English and Urdu newspapers. They have a significant monopoly over the important news content which has a serious impact on the opinions of the audience on a variety of key issues which hold importance, that they are portrayed in a diverse manner or these media groups are only projecting their own narratives regarding key news issues which result in homogeneity. We have compared two months of data from 1st January 2022 to 28th February 2022 of Nawa-i-Waqt, The Nation and Jang &amp; The News. Our comparison sample is of the front page of each of the newspaper which has helped us establish the homogeneity and plurality among cross media owned press. It has enabled us to determine the practices adopted by these cross-media groups.

As our dependency on social media and other forms of media continues to increase every day, we are increasingly reliant upon them for our cognitive and informational needs. To us, not only it acts as a medium and source for reliable information regarding domestic and international development, but has also become one of the major sources for health information, particularly for the youth that has joined online communities for discourse on their health concerns. However, it must be understood that whenever any information is dispersed to the audience, it is always presented through specific frames that highlight a specific meaning, in a specific context to project and collect a collective response from the audience. It is important to study these frames, especially in the context of the recent lockdowns, to ensure that there are no social and psychological impacts in case of improper framing. At the same time, the research was also meant to shed light upon the potential of social media as a potential medium of dissemination tailored health communication by health authorities. It was observed that there was active discussion regarding preventive measures and treatment methods as people continued to engage with each other after the pandemic. It was also observed that there was that if there is an absence of credible official information, a vacuum is created that is exploited by rumors which can hamper the efforts of governments to contain the threat of the epidemic, leading people to create their own content regarding the situation at hand. Hence, we can see that media framing and tones used by media organizations for reporting and covering the COVID-19 pandemic can play an essential role in disseminating health information, shaping public narrative and ultimately contributing to the curbing of the disease.

The Pulwama attack on February 14, 2019 in the Indian administered Kashmir, worsened the Indo-Pak bilateral relation and brought both the nuclear states on the verge of war. In the ever growing and unending hostility between these rival states, the role of media is worth discussion as it plays important role in constructing war, peace, ideologies, and dissemination of these frames. This research employed the framing theory of Erving Goffman (1974) and discourse analysis coupled with Entman (1993) model of framing-as functionalized in the studies of Papacharissi&amp; Oliveira, (2008); Semetko&amp;Valkenburg, (2000) to examine the coverage of Pulwama attack in Kashmir in Dawn and The News newspapers, one of the leading English language dailies in Pakistan. This study analyzed the editorials of elite English press of India and Pakistan regarding the Pulwama attack and the unrest created due to this terror attack. The study critically analyzed the mediated themes to reveal the dominant frames used by elite newspapers of Pakistan vis-à-vis the Kashmir conflict. The findings unveil that both the selected newspapers namely Dawn and The News used different frames and themes to conceptualize the Pulwama attack. Both the newspapers carried the elite oriented approach as well as bilateral cum human rights issue having repercussions for regional peace. The study concludes that the elite press reproduced and reinforced the dominant narratives and closely followed the foreign policy discourse of their respective countries. The study found that both Dawn and The News were dominated by the theme of Kashmir cause and episodic frames and less focus was given to Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and the thematic frame during the conflict of Pulwama terror attack.

Due to an emerging popularity of social media among the young adults of Pakistan where everyone is expected to be online and connected to the internet, as social media sites are being used by young adults, it has been observed that a great number of them is utilizing it for accessing information regarding their health concerns. This research was carried out to uncover the usage of social media sites that were being used by young adults for seeking health information by the young adults and to study the extent. At the same time, it intended to uncover the motivation behind the usage of young adults to utilize social media for their health concerns. This is hypothesized that there is likely to be the significant associations between the usage of social media networking sites and socio demographic variables. Data was entered into the SPSS-25 in order to carry out statistical analysis. Independent sample t-test, one way ANOV A and correlation method were applied to test the hypotheses. It was observed that the young adults are readily using social media for health information as they find it to be rewarding and satisfying, fulfilling and providing for their health concerns. It was also seen that an extended amount of exposure leads to an increment in the health seeking behavior of the young adults as they learn to handle the overwhelming amount of information while finding their relevant Concerns without much frustration.
