Analyzing the code of conduct for journalists in political talk shows by PEMRA in Pakistan : A case study of Pakistani media
Khawaja Abdul Kareem Wyne, 01-154171-037
The present research aims to find out the effect of political talk shows in perception building of local audience and to highlight the realities behind biased approach of journalists in their talk shows despite implication by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority. The study was both quantitative and qualitative in nature whereas the universe was Islamabad. As of the population was general public and journalists. 200 respondents were from general public and 17 journalists were interviewed for the qualitative analysis. Simple random sampling was done for the general public opinion whereas, 17 purposive and non-random sampling technique was used for the journalists. Data analysis was univariate and the major findings were that 29% of the general public strongly disagrees that the talk shows does not defame any political party, 31% of the general public strongly disagrees about the talk show host is unbiased whereas, 29.4% of the journalists/ anchor persons strongly agrees that the journalists misuse their right to information. This concludes to the point that, general public has fairly lost an interest in the political talk shows and mainly the youth which only analyses the talk shows over the sarcastic comments, blame game and abuses given to one another during the talk shows. PEMRA’s regulations, clause 4 of the news and current affairs programmes have been analyzed and as per the statistical analysis, majority of the rules are not followed as per the research. Therefore it is recommended for the journalists/ anchor persons to not share their point of views and state facts and references only. The journalists should announce the political party they vote for in order to stay accountable in their commentary whereas, PEMRA should upgrade their policy to improve the standards and not to support the government.

Social media and sex education: A survey of students

Social media and sex education: A survey of students
Shah Ruba Ghufran, 01-154171-017
With the rise of media exposure without any filter in the new globalized world showed obvious increase in the rise of sexual frustration and confusion among the adolescence. Hence the following study is on the topic of sexual confusion and frustration in Pakistani youth. With the rising global pandemic, we had no other option but to use online medium for data collection. we used Google survey with the mix of both qualitative and quantitative questions and shared among the target audiences of 15-19 years of age and 20-29 years of age. Due to the sensitivity of the topic we could not reach the expected number of participants but the responses that we did get were enough to draw our themes and conclusions regarding our hypothesis. Around 120 people participated out of which some of the responses were not worth counting because the survey was not taken as seriously. And we ended up with around 101 participants. After looking at the findings, the conclusion was drawn that the frustration and confusion originally is being generated from the clash of dominant culture with the local culture. There were many other themes and elements involved as well; Like shame and the most prominent of them all was lack of education and lack of an outlet of frustration. After going through all this study and looking at all the responses that people gave I think that the only solution to this current problem is to have a “Physiological and Health Education” course made part of the curriculum on every educational stage with the respective of age of course. With the increase of awareness and education regarding human physiology, what is normal and abnormal, right and wrong and how to maintain one’s hygiene, mental, and physical health and protect themselves from any and all kind of diseases and harassment; will then we be able to have a positive and healthy youth that takes Pakistan much further ahead into the future and compete with the world

Muhammad Azaz Khan, 01-154171-029
The thesis aims to identify the role of social media in the life of college students. As it remains a fact that social media has been an inspiration for college students, but, they are not even in a position to properly handle and control their habits. The result is extremely dangerous as this trend then leads toward a stage where the social media starts to hamper the growth of college students especially when it comes to study. It not only impacts the study patterns of students, but also leads to hazardous health issues. Moreover, it remains a fact that excessive use of social media deviates students from extracurricular activities. It is found that excessive use of social media have made students more addictive. This thesis endeavors to inculcate in college students that the importance of social media cannot overshadowed, however, steps and care must be considered remaining in the safe zone. This study shows that a growing number of students are being succumbed to the excessive use of social media and especially the college students who barely distinguish between the good and the bad
